Farmers Savings Bank & Trust will hold their annual Holiday Open house on Friday, December 2, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.In the “Spirit of Giving”, the bank will be giving away a total of $300 in VU bucks! We will also donate $3.00 to the church of your choice. Santa will be here from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.The bank is located at  401 B Avenue, Vinton, Iowa.

Join Santa at the library on Thursday, December 1. Come at 5:00 p.m to make your Christmas wishlist and decorate a Christmas cookie. Santa will arrive at 5:30 to read, "'Twas the Night before Christmas."

AIM (Atkins Improvement Mission) will be hosting a silent auction through December 11 during regular library hours. Items may be brought to the library located at 480 3rd Ave. in Atkins, through December 8.Organizations, community members and businesses are asked to donate holiday-themed decorations for the silent auction Christmas Walk. Donations could include a decorated tree, wreath, basket, sign or weekend away, use your imagination! Items will be displayed through December 11 for bids.

The Benton Community FFA Chapter will host the annual Veterans Benefit Breakfast on Sunday, December 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Van Horne Community Center. The breakfast will consist of pancakes, eggs, sausages, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit and doughnut for a freewill donation. To-go boxes will be available.All proceeds will be donated to the Benton County Veterans Affairs.

Belle Plaine Community Development Corporation will host its Holiday Homecoming Saturday, November 26. The sixth annual lighted parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Line-up will begin at the Chelsea Savings Bank at 5 p.m. Belle Plaine Bucks will be given to the top three entries and all entries will receive a commemorative pin. Winners will be announced at the tree lighting, with first place receiving $200; second place, $100, and third place, $50.

The La Porte City Women’s Club invites you to tour five festively decorated homes in La Porte City on Sunday, December 4, from 5-7:00 p.m. These brightly lit homes are opening their doors to the public to share their Christmas décor. The historic early 1900’s Snook home is also on the tour. We will have vendors in this gorgeous historic home as well as hot chocolate & cookies provided by the Women’s Club.
