Center Point Friends of the Library Focus on Family Trees July 17
Friends of the Center Point Library is sponsoring a free genealogy program at the Library located at 720 Main St., in Center Point at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 17. Ruth Armstrong from the Genealogical Society of Linn County will speak on “Building Your Family Tree.”
There was no Monkeying around at Center Point Library's 1st Friday With Friends
At the July 7 free coffee gathering at the Center Point Library there was no talk of kids, cooking or crochet. Instead, Mary Jane Gustoff told the group about her mail-order monkey.She and the late Ed “Gus” Gustoff got married in 1956 and the young man’s fancy also turned to monkeys. So, of course, they got one—from the Spiegel catalog. Mary Jane was teaching Third Grade at Troy Mills at the time and during her noon break ran to the Walker depot to pick him up from the train.
Join the Fun Benefit Ride for Pink Heals July 15
Pink Heals Easter Iowa will host a benefit ride on Saturday, July 15. Funds raised go toward the task of Pink Heals which is to bring a smile to those battling cancer. BIKE DAY AT CENTER POINT DEPOT MUSEUM JULY 16
Celebrate bicycle trails at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. Bike, drive, or walk in for a slide presentation by the Linn County Conservation Department and Linn County Trails Association. Enjoy the special exhibit entitled, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” The Museum is open, free, every Sunday 2-5 through October 29.
Pint-Size Polkas: Accordion player to visit Vinton Friday
The Vinton Public Library Summer Reading Program welcomes Pint-Size Polkas to Vinton, this Friday, July 6.
The presentation by "Uncle Mike" Schneider begins at 10 a.m. at the Vinton Public Library. The presentation includes music-based lessons on education, learning, hygiene and other topics. The public is invited. The performance will include "The Chicken Dance," which became famous as a polka before becoming a favorite at wedding receptions and other festivals.
Public Canoeing at Rodgers Park August 17th, 1-3PM
Public Canoeing will be held at Rodgers Park on August 17th from 1-3 PM at Rodgers Park. The FREE event is offered by Benton County Conservation. The public canoe program is held at Rodgers Park. During this program, we will
cover canoe and water safety and paddling basics for flatwater canoeing. Participants
should meet at the beach and should bring their own water and wear shoes that can get wet.
Dinner at the Fairgrounds - July 22, 5:00 p.m.
Make plans to come back to the fairgrounds on July 22nd for "Dinner at the Fairgrounds!" The dinner will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m.The Benton County Cattlemen's Association will be firing up the grill again to grill steaks and Iowa chops! The group will also bring along some sides to go along with it.Proceeds raised will go toward fairground improvements.

local rehabilitators, and what you can do to help.
